School Assessment Policy
Purpose
To effectively utilize diverse assessment methods and provide quality feedback to facilitate student learning.
Diverse Assessment Approaches and Methods
Examinations
- Three examinations are conducted annually.
- For newly enrolled Primary 1 students, an adaptation period is provided, exempting them from the first examination. Therefore, they only participate in two examinations in the first year.
In-class Assessments and Feedback
- Classroom questioning is one of the daily assessment methods.
- High-quality questioning and feedback are effective in promoting student learning.
Pre-class, In-class, and Post-class E-assessments
- The school encourages students to engage in self-directed learning and self-assessment.
- Teachers design or provide various e-assessments or Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based assessment tools according to the needs of different topics, offering feedback to students.
- Teachers also use data analysis from e-platforms or AI platforms to address each student's individual needs.
"Alternative" Dictation
- The purpose of dictation is to help students, parents, and teachers understand the student’s learning progress and difficulties, providing appropriate guidance to improve vocabulary and language skills.
- Traditional dictation methods often make students feel bored and stressed, resulting in short-term memory retention.
- Starting from the 2025 academic year, students will no longer take part in traditional dictation for English & Chinese. Instead, teachers will design "diversified games" that integrate students' daily life experiences and contexts to enhance their interest in learning and improve their language proficiency.
Assessment of Future Skills
- The school is committed to equipping students with 21st-century skills, including scientific skills, exploratory abilities, artificial intelligence, programming, computational thinking, problem-solving skills, and digital literacy.
- These skills are challenging to assess using traditional written methods. Instead, they are better reflected through student projects, presentations, and teacher observations in class.
- To address this, the school has introduced the "Future Skills Comprehensive Assessment Rubric", which evaluates students' performance in Science, ICT, and STEAM lessons.
- The rubric assesses abilities such as reporting and problem-solving skills, creative thinking, communication and collaboration, scientific literacy, computational thinking, digital literacy, and critical thinking. This allows parents to gain a clear understanding of their child’s performance in various areas.
Self-Assessment (SELF QUIZ)
- For Chinese, English, and Mathematics, key learning objectives are assessed at the end of every lesson or unit.
- Students conduct self-assessments at home within the time specified on the assessment papers and submit them to subject teachers for marking.
- Teachers will promptly follow up based on student performance to adjust and refine their teaching strategies.
